Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 kg potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet), peeled and cut into 2-inch chunks
  • 100g milk (whole milk or 2% recommended)
  • 50g butter, unsalted
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • Optional: 2 cloves garlic, minced (for garlic mashed potatoes), fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme

Substitutions:

  • Milk: Use cream for extra richness or unsweetened almond milk for a dairy-free option.
  • Butter: Swap with olive oil or vegan butter if preferred.
  • Seasoning: Experiment with garlic powder, onion powder, or paprika for added flavor.

Instructions

  • Boiling the Potatoes: Place the chopped potatoes into the Thermomix bowl. Add 1 liter of water and 1 tsp of salt. Secure the lid and set to 15 minutes/Varoma/Speed 1.
  • Checking for Doneness: After 15 minutes, check if the potatoes are fork-tender. If not, continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes/Varoma/Speed 1.
  • Draining the Potatoes: Carefully drain the potatoes using the simmering basket.
  • Adding Milk and Butter: Return the cooked potatoes to the Thermomix bowl. Add the milk and butter.
  • Mashing: Secure the lid and set to 30 seconds/Speed 4, gradually increasing to Speed 6.
  • Seasoning and Serving: Add salt and pepper to taste. Mix briefly with the spatula. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra creamy mash, use warm milk and butter before mixing.
  • Roasting the potatoes before mashing enhances the flavor.
  • For cheesy mashed potatoes, stir in grated cheddar or parmesan cheese.
  • Add fresh herbs like chives, rosemary, or thyme for a fragrant twist.
